Ozark Trail conditions as of 07/27/2017

A friend and I rode the trail from the 18.5 mile mark on the Courtois section to Sutton Bluff last week clearing the trail of anything we could do by hand. From our start down to the Hwy 8 Trailhead the trail is in good condition. Below Hazel Creek Campground, 2.26 miles to 4 miles, there are 4 or 5 good sized trees that will need some chainsaw attention. About 2 miles before Sutton Bluff there is a large tree that blocks the trail with not much of a safe way to get around it. Otherwise the trail is in pretty good condition. Watch your step coming up on the blacktop before you get to Sutton Bluff. The right side of the tread has eroded away around some tree roots and its pretty deep. We will fill that in on our next trip
We will be going back in August to ride the trouble spots again in preparation for the Ozark Trail 75/100 Endurance Ride on September 23rd. Enjoy your ride on this beautiful trail!!

I have been planning to thru hike starting at the Onongaga on Sept 22. This will put me on the OT the same time as this ride. Can you give me some details about your ride like number of riders, start time and pace, etc?

Thank you.

Good morning, The ride will be starting at Bass River Resort at around 0500 and will go down to Sutton Bluff on the Ozark Trail. There will probably be 10 -15 riders. They will be instructed at the pre-ride meeting to watch for hikers and bikers on the trail as this is a multi-use trail. If you see or hear any riders coming, speak to them and the horses won't think you're a horse eating monster!! Have a great hike through!!

Thanks for the reply. You will be well ahead of me. I won't pass through Bass resort until 9:00 or so Saturday morning. Enjoy our ride.

Barry,

My hike went very well. I've been off the trail about a month and I am already planning my next trip. Thanks for asking. I did pick up several glowsticks.

Happy trails
