15 miles of the Ozark Trail was repaired in January 2011. Trail Unlimited, a team of trail construction experts from the Forest Service worked 5 weeks to make repairs on the Karkaghne section of Ozark Trail damaged in the May 8, 2009 windstorm known as Derecho. A four man team, Trail Unlimited repaired the Ozark Trail in Reynolds County using a mini excavator, mini trail dozer, 2 ATVs and 2 chain saws. The team repaired the Karkaghne section from TT Highway east to Sutton Bluff Campground, and then north of Sutton Bluff Campground to the Karkaghne road for a total of 15 miles.

Some tread work remains to be fixed using hand tools on this section due to the steep terrain where the mechanized equipment was not taken. However, all the chain saw work is completed. Plans are being made to finish the repairs using volunteers and possibly a paid crew.
