June 1st Maintenance at Huzzah Conservation Area

We got a lot done on the northern six miles of the Courtois section that runs through the Huzzah Conservation Area just south of Leasburg.  We put up a new bulletin board, mowed and trimmed several miles of trail, put up new signs, and most importantly removed dozens of downed trees from a recent storm.

This was an intense workday, and we appreciate the great efforts of Robert, Frank, Jeff, Margo, Peggy, and John.  Awesome job, folks!

Jeff helped Frank dig the holes, then Frank put his carpentry skills to the test in constructing a new sign at the northern trailhead (which is also part of an HCA wildlife viewing trail).

Margo lopped and signed two miles of trail plus scrubbed for Peggy, one of three sawyers on the trail today.  Peggy is sporting one of our new chainsaw backpacks.  They're standing in front of an ATV/Mower combo we use to cut back thick weed and brush.

Going over the day's plans.  In the background you can see Frank working on the sign.
