Come out and help do some tread rehab on the OT —
This maintenance helps the OTA fulfill its volunteer hours commitment to the USFS.

We’ll have exact location details the Monday before the event. We generally meet up by 8:15am at the location — so stay tuned for more details.

As always , wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots, bring a lunch, at least 2 liters of water and weather appropriate clothing.

We’ll watch the weather and make sure we have a good weather window.

      Hi Christy

Here are no specific requirements for volunteers to come out and help.

If you wish to come out and work on the trail . leaf blowing, weed eating, lopping or rehabbing tread
You need to be some basic level of fitness. We can hike p to 3 miles or so carrying a day pack with water, lunch, snacks,
first aid kit, toiletry kit and rain gear. if you are sing a leaf blower that is a backpack style blower so a smaller day pack is needed.
If using a weed eater. that too is a harness or sling that you an wear under a backpack.

Leaf blower weighs about 20 lbs and a weed eater about 15 lbs. you may also carry a can of gas ( about a quart / 1 liter)

When we work tread we carry in a small day pack as mentioned, a couple trail tools each weighing approximately 5-8 lbs.

WE try to keep walks with tools under a mile. ( out and back = 2 miles)

We generally work on the trail between 9am-3pm .. but that vary based on weather and difficulty of work)

The leaders of the event train any new volunteers o the activities how to use the tools and power equipment
      and provide safety talks.

Safety is always our first mission — so we spend a lot of time explaining safety and rules on the trail.

We try to car pool whenever possible to save wear and tear on volunteer vehicles as we can go down some rough
roads to get to a work site.

WE provide all safety equipment ( PPE personal protective equipment), including, hard hats, gloves and safety glasses.
OTA Event and crew leaders all have First aid certifications.

Not sure what else you might be wanting o know .. but this covers the basics.

      regards

      Terry Hawn
