SUMMARY:Winona Bound for the Last Hurrah!
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be working out of  the Winona USFS  Facility on all parts of  the southern OT trail sections. There will be more tread rehab on the 11 PT section \, tree and brush clearing on several sections. We’ll start each day around 7:30 am at the Winona facility and head out to the work sites from there. \nThere is a full kitchen and bathroom facilities in the house at Winona as well as camping on the grounds. Volunteers are welcome to come for a day or more. SUMMARY:Soothe the Karkaghne May 16-20\, 2022 @Sutton Bluff
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be working and camping  on the Karkahgne fixing tread under the GAO project.  This’ll be a hike in south of Bee-Fork where we will be doing serious tread rehab work on the Big and Little Nasty tread.  Each day there will be a water crossing and hike to the work site.  When you sign up let us know days you will be attending as well as any meal needs.  The OTA will provide some meals and that will be included in the informational email before the event. \nYou will need to bring the essentials for camping as well as a backpack\, snacks\, food for meals not furnished\, wear heavy boots\, long pants and be prepared for a variety of weather so include a rain coat and water shoes for the Bee Fork river crossing.  Also sunscreen\, bug repellant\, extra water as the water at Sutton Bluff is not potable.  We will also have extra water.  Also bring a swim suit to enjoy the river and a chair for around the campfire at night. \nIf you have any questions or more info\, contact Terry Hawn at thawn@prodigy.net

DESCRIPTION:This is your opportunity to come out for a day or two or more so make sure when you sign up you let us know what your plans are so we can plan accordingly.  We have reserved the Winona USFS Facility so there is first come housing and camping is available in the yard.  Heading down to Winona allows us to begin to enjoy the first signs of spring and more while getting work done on the southern sections of the OT which are always a treat to be out on. \nWe’ll be getting them ready for the 2022 season. Come down for a day or the 2 weeks. \nWe’ll be weed eating\, loping\, clearing trees and doing GAOA tread rehab. \nThe facility has a full kitchen\, 2 indoor restrooms and limited sleeping quarters ( available on a first come first serve basis) \nWe are practicing our covid procedures which are as follows: \n\nIf you have any cold or flu or covid symptoms — please don’t come.\nIf you have been exposed to anyone else who has the above symptoms — please don’t come\nIf you have been in any medical facility in the last 2 week before the event — please do not come\nWe will sanitize the facility on March 6th. DESCRIPTION:HEADS UP \nTHIS EVENT HAS NOW BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER \nCovid has raised its ugly head and we have had to make some changes. This event has been shortened up and we will no longer have Americorps  participating as they ave been pulled into emergency covid response work. \nWe are still heading down south to Winona to work on the southern OT sections. We’ll be rehabbing tread on the 11 point and clearing any winter storm damage. \nCome out for a day or more. \nThe USFS facility in Winona will be our base of operations and has a kitchen with refridgeration and indoor restrooms.  You can also camp in the surrounding yard. \nStay home if you have tested positive for COVID-19\, are waiting for COVID-19 test results\, have COVID-19 symptoms\, or if you have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19. \nWhen congregating before and after the event \, where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain\, face coverings will be encouraged. Masks will be provided to staff and attendees who do not bring their own. Hand sanitizer will be made available and disposable food service items including utensils and dishes will be used. Contact information for all attendees will be collected to support contact tracing. \nOn the Trail:  With any work on the OT\, you need to wear sturdy boots\, long pants\, dress in layers(plan for weather)\, bring a backpack to carry your lunch and water ( at least 2 liters) on the trail.  You will be carrying tools on the trail so you need to have gloves and the OTA will provide gloves and safety glasses if needed. \nThe OTA will provide a dinner or 2 and breakfast.  Please be prepared to provide your meals as backup. \nTerry Hawn \nOTA Const/Maint Coordinator \nthawn@prodigy.net

DESCRIPTION:If you have a day or 2 to spare — the OTA and Americorp will be working on the Ozark Trail out of Potosi. We’ll be fixing tread\, clearing trail for several days\ up and down the northern 5 miles of the OT. \nWe’ll meet up at the OTA house most days and head out to the work area. \nWe will be observing a strict covid protocol so no overnight stays at the OTA House as it will be full with Americorps and OTA Trail crew members. \nIf you have any cold or flu like symptoms\, have been exposed to anyone been in with similar symptoms\, have been to a medical facility in the last 2 weeks where covid patients might have exposed the facility … please do not come. \nOn any day you come out\, bring a lunch\, at least 2 liters of water and weather appropriate clothes and shoes.   The OTA provides all tools and safety equipment.   We will car pool to the work sites. \nEach day will be weather dependent so if the weather is bad — might be better to come out another day. SUMMARY:Potosi-Johnson Shutins State PArk -- Americorp Week Nov 15-20
DESCRIPTION:Due to recent storm damage — we are shifting this event to Johnson Shutins State Park.  The OTA and Americorps crews will be teaming up in to work  Potosi and then shuttle down to Johnson Shutins State Park Visitor center to work on clearing storm damage and tread repair. We will be down in Winona on another future event. \nIf you are an OTA certified sawyer we could use a couple extra sawyers and swampers to lead teams out to clear trees. One day or the week if you have the time.. we’d love to have you come down and help. \nWe’ll be shuttling from the OTA  facilities in Potosi or you can meet us at the JSI Visitor Center on Hwy N. \nBring your sawing duds\, saw and safety PPE..we’ll supply the gas and oil and shuttles. DESCRIPTION:Time to put some time on the lower sections of the OT with opportunities in June.  OTA Volunteers can arrive on Sunday \, June 6\, in preparation of doing deferred trail maintenance project planned with the GAOA funding from the MTNF.   The week of June 6\, we will have available housing Sunday – Wednesday but volunteers can also camp with access to the annex house for cooking and showers. \nThe second week is June 21  with same details as above.  When signing up\, please indicate what week\, days and if require a bed which are limited.  Meals will be discussed after review of the number of volunteers signed up and the information will be shared in the informational email to volunteers attending.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Natl. Trails Day @ Current River SP
DESCRIPTION:Come one\, come all! Lets’ celebrate trails…especially the Ozark Trail and all it has to offer. \nWe will be heading to Current River SP to celebrate the OT as we gather for a weekend of outdoor activites including trail maintenance\, hiking\, floating and time around a big ole campfire under a star filled sky.  There is unlimited camping Friday and Saturday nights so bring a tent\, camping gear\, personal gear\, food for meals not provided and of course a camp chair. \nDetails:  Volunteers can start arriving on Friday to set up.  The OTA will be providing the main course for dinner on Saturday night and asking volunteers to bring a side or dessert to compliment the meal.  We are looking at a communal breakfast on Sunday morning.  There is a full kitchen with a large refrigerator to share.  The OTA will provide coffee and fixings in the mornings.  If you don’t have a kayak or canoe\, you can contact Carr’s Canoe Rental and speak with Stacy. \nAs the MO DNR State Parks go ahead with upgrades across the state park system\, it maybe a while before we return to one of our most memorable places so be sure to join us….kathie \nContact Kathie at kathie.brennan@ozarktrail.com with questions.

DESCRIPTION:It’s going to be a beautiful weekend . so we have decided to let everyone celebrate Memorial Day and have the weekend off.  Besides we have  been working with crews for the last 2 weeks and we’re beat.. SUMMARY:Somewhere out there...heading to Udahl
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we return to Udahl to continue with the monumental journey of connecting the Ozark Trail and the Ozark Highland Trail at the Missouri and Arkansas border.  Details are being worked out but there will be camping\, trail construction\, campfire and talk of the future of these two trails.  Plan on arriving Friday for a full day of construction on Saturday.  Sunday will be an optional visit to the future trail construction sites. \nDETAILS:  Several of us will be down Thursday afternoon so that we are ready to do trail corridor preparation on Friday and then building on Saturday.   We do have plans to have a traditional Saturday group dinner. Volunteers need to plan on providing your own lunch on Saturday and other meals during your stay as we will observe as much social distancing and safety as we can. \nThe OTA will supply all trail work tools\, work PPE.  We will also provide masks\, hand sanitizer and touchless thermometer to do basic Covid screening on Friday and Saturday as you check-in. \nWatch for the Green OTA arrow sign as you come into the Udall Campground. We will likely be the only group there but we will guide you in. Address of the campground is Udall Campground\, State Hwy O\, Udall\, MO 65766 \nWhen you sign up for the event\, please let us know when you plan to arrive as well any other volunteers attending.  This makes it easier to plan for tools and food. \nNOTE:  If you have been to the doctor or been around someone who has been to the doctor in the last 2 weeks\, or around anyone who has been symptomatic or you have any symptoms\, please do not come to the event. DESCRIPTION:Tired of football\, food and family?  Time to hit the OT and enjoy the Forest by doing some maintenance to stretch those legs and work off a bit of the Thanksgiving leftovers. \nHere’s the plan – We will be following Covid procedures so the drill is…if you have a cough\, been exposed to someone recently with Covid\, or have been to the Doctor in the past week\, PLEASE do not attend.  There will be other opportunities. \nWhere- We will meet Saturday morning at the OTA office on Hwy 8 at by 8:30 am.  This allows volunteers to sign in\, gather their gear and receive instructions.  Volunteers need to be aware that there will be no car pooling and the work site is about 20 minutes to the west of Potosi. \nVolunteers need to bring a backpack to carry water\, snacks and your lunch\, something to sit on\, wear sturdy boots\, glove(we have some if you need)\, layer clothing for the weather and be ready to have a great day in the Forest!  The OTA will have hard hats\, safety glasses\, gloves and all the tools requred. \nIf you have questions\, contact Terry Hawn at thawn@prodigy.net

DESCRIPTION:This is always the best time on putting some loving on the OT in preparation of the annual OT100m Endurance Run that covers the OT from Hwy 72 all the way up to Bass’ River Resort.  Based out of the OTA office in Potosi\, we will work through the miles making sure that the trail is in the best shape it can be for these world class elite trail runners from all over the nation.   Work will include leaf blowing\, sawing and lopping. \nThis is always a great time to showcase the work our OTA Volunteers do time after time.  We will be following COVID-19 procedures and volunteers may need to utilize their own vehicles to get to the work areas. \nThere will be camping available along with a kitchen for meals.  Please comment what days you will be able to volunteer.

SUMMARY:Whoopin' it Up in Winona Plus Some!
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the one of the best times down south as we “Whoop It Up In Winona” based out of the Winona Forest Service facilities.  We’re planning on an extended Work Week from Saturday\, Oct. 17 through Saturday\, Oct. 24 to get more bang for the work needed to be done on different sections of the OT from the Current River section all the way over to the Eleven Point section.  Plan to come for one day or multiple days as we tackle the trail involving some “TLC” sections and also help our adopters with needs they see that needs to be done. \nNOTE:  Due to Covid\, there is only camping at this time in the yard under the pines.  We will have access to a bathroom and kitchen.  You can also camp under the pines in the yard.  Even if you come for one day or more\, you’ll have the BEST time…just ask those who make it a point to come back every year!!! \nDinner will be provided Saturday night\, you will need to cover your breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  Sunday morning we’ll have a communal breakfast.  The rest of the week will be discussed based on the number of volunteers for the week.  Covid procedures will be in place so be sure to bring the necessary items\, mask\, hand sanitizer\, your favorite pair of gloves.  We will provide hard hats that will be sanitized. \nOther items to make your stay comfortable are camp chair\, extra clothing for changes in the weather including rain gear.  Sturdy hiking boots\, long pants\, a backpack to carry your water and food on the trail and bug spray. \nA more detailed informational email will be sent out before the event.  If you have any questions\, email or contact Kathie at kathie.brennan@ozarktrail.com or 573-382-8270. \nDirections: Winona is just off of Hwy 60.

DESCRIPTION:Time to put the shine on the OT as we prep for the One-Eyed Dog MTB race to be held Saturday\, September 26.  We will be based out of Council Bluff Lake Campground beginning Thursday\, September 24 at we meet at 8:30 am to spread out over the OT.  Work will include brushing\, sawing\, lopping and making sure the course is the best it can humanly possibly be for the MTB’ers who are helping raise funds for the OTA and the NOAH Foundation. \nA group campsite will be available for volunteers that will enable social distancing.  Volunteers will need to utilize their vehicles to the work sites and COVID-19 procedures will be implemented.  Meals will be the responsibility of the volunteers due to COVID-19 procedures.  The CBL has a shower house that will be available to use. \n

DESCRIPTION:We will be meeting up for a few days on the OT as we hit areas that need some TLC from the summer vegetation growth as well as removing tree that are impacting users.  We will base out of Potosi meeting each morning at 8:30 am at the OTA Office on Hwy 8.  Volunteers can camp in the yard or utilize the Berryman campground. \nYou will need to bring a backpack\, water\, food\, wear long pants\, sturdy boots and have COVID-19 items on hand\, mask and hand sanitizer in your backpack.  Volunteers will be utilizing their own vehicles to practice social distancing.  For those attending multiple days\, you will be responsible for your meals.  the OTA Office has a kitchen and restroom facilities. \nPlease provide in your comments when signing up what days you are planning on attending and if you will be camping.  For more information\, contact Kathie at kathie.brennan@ozarktrailcom
