SUMMARY:2020 OT Challenge Hike
DESCRIPTION:The OT Challenge Hike is not just a great time\, it’s our largest fundraiser.  After only three years\, the event has generated $75\,000 to help maintain Missouri’s longest trail. \n\n\n\nWhat is it? The Challenge Hike is a fundraiser AND hike. Each registered hiker commits to raising $1\,250 for the Ozark Trail Association and participates in a 17 mile hike. \nWhat if I can’t hike 17 miles? Don’t worry! You can still raise funds for the OTA and be a “virtual” hiker. What a great way to support the organization! \nWhat’s in it for me? The best part of this fundraiser is the group of committed hikers! You’ll be treated to a festive weekend with free camping\, free food\, fellowship\, campfire\, music and all sorts of OTA/Challenge Hike schwag. \nWhere is the hike? The hike is scheduled to start at Bass River Resort\, near Steelville\, Missouri. \nHow do I get involved? If you’d like to be a part of this exciting event\, email otchallengehike@ozarktrail.com for more information.

SUMMARY:Devil's Toll Race
DESCRIPTION:13 Miles: Taum Sauk Mountain State Park to Johnson’s Shut-In State Park\nThe Devil’s Toll Race is a 13-mile dual discipline event across one of the most scenic and rugged landscapes Missouri’s Ozark Trail has to offer. The course traverses from the highest point in Missouri\, Taum Sauk Mountain State Park\, past beautiful Mina Sauk Falls then through the lichen-covered rhyolite sentries of Devil’s Toll Gate. Hikers and runners will then climb over and around Proffit and Wildcat Mountains with a tricky descent past the famous scour of Taum Sauk reservoir\, finishing at Johnson’s Shut-ins State Park. The race is meant to bolster friendship and awareness among groups and provide inspiration for adventure! For more details and to register your team\, visit: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=65213 \nAll Devil’s Toll Race proceeds benefit the Ozark Trail Association (OTA)\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization\, whose mission is to develop\, maintain\, preserve\, promote and protect the rugged\, natural beauty of the Ozark Trail.

SUMMARY:Ramen to the Rescue #1 - Current River Section
DESCRIPTION:Ramen and backpacking go hand it hand. There is just about nothing a good hike and a bowl of ramen can’t solve. But to hike\, you need a clear trail. That is where we come in. There is some some TLC that needs to be applied liberally to a portion of the Current River section much like that tasty flavor packet. So bring your ramen and come get some trail time. \nThis is a maintenance event that will consist of lopping\, sawing\, signing and leaf blowing. Total mileage of walking will be about 4-5. The event will take place on Saturday out of Hunter’s Camp which has primitive camping but no water or facilities. Camping is available Friday and Saturday night. Depending on the group\, we can start some work on the Midco Hollow re-route in preparation for the March 30th event on Sunday. There is no planned meal for this event\, but the box of different Ramens will be available. If you would like to organize a meal\, we can arrange that. \nDress for the weather in layers making sure you have sturdy footwear. We will provide all tools needed. \nDirections:\nFrom Van Buren\, take Hwy M north\, Make a left on Pike Creek Road. This road is likely not labeled and may be hard to see. An OT marker has been attached. Follow Pike Creek Road for about 7 miles until you reach the camp. Map is available at https://caltopo.com/m/AC4H . Please take care when navigating the route. Note this road may not appear on Google maps or GPS. There are 3 spots that could be low water crossings with rain as well as some clearance issues with very low vehicles. Plan accordingly.
