Visit Mina Sauk Falls via the Russell Mountain trailhead. You'll get a few more miles and a few more glades by starting at Russell Moutain rather than Taum Sauk Mountain.
Description
This is a great alternative to the Mina Sauk Falls loop for those that want extra miles. You'll get a pretty good workout with three 300' climbs over eight miles of trail. The igneous glades have a pink hue, mottled with green and gray lichen, and are surrounded by stunted, xeric forests. A few of the glades have excellent vistas, especially overlooking the Taum Sauk Creek valley as you descend to Mina Sauk Falls.
The falls are fun in any season, but you'll get the best views while leaves are off the trees. Timing your trip after a big rain gives you a chance to see some magnificent cascades that span 132'.
